The basic role of a Floor Layer is to apply blocks, strips, or sheets of shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, or decorative coverings to floors.
Most Floor Layers specialise in working with a particular type of product, such as linoleum, hardwood, vinyl, tile, or carpet. Regardless of specialisation, Floor Layers require a good eye for detail and appreciation of math and measurements.
Floor Layers:
- acquire and deliver materials to the site
- inspect and level the surface prior to laying new material
- measure room sizes and cut materials to specifications
- use adhesives, knives, stretching tools and staples to lay carpet
- use grout applicators and sanders to lay tiles
- install moisture-proof insulation, glue and putty knives to lay linoleum or laminate
